When a drawing is opened that was never opened in Civil 3D® before, for example an AutoCAD drawing or 3rd party drawing, Civil 3D will automatically generate the default standard style for each of its styles, including the part list. However, Civil 3D imports all pipe and structure families from the current pipe catalog into the standard part list.
If your Civil 3D is connected to the default Autodesk pipe network catalog, the import process is relatively quick as the Autodesk catalog includes only a limited number of part families. If your Civil 3D is linked to a catalog with significantly more parts, such as the iDAS catalog, which contains over 500 pipe families and over 200 structure families, this process can take up to 20 minutes or more.
To overcome this issue, the following workflow can be used:
Set Civil 3D to temporarily use the Autodesk pipe network catalogue. If you have iDAS, use the Pipe Catalog Settings command. This command can be found in the iDAS compact ribbon under Network Utilities:
Or in the iDAS extended ribbon under iDAS Network Edit:
Click on the Autodesk US Metric Catalog button:
If you do not have iDAS, you can set the catalog manually by using the Civil 3D Set Pipe Network Catalog command:
The default path for the Autodesk catalog is the following: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\C3D 2025\enu\Pipes Catalog
Open the problematic drawing (it creates the standard part list with Autodesk parts)
Save the drawing
Set Civil 3D back to your catalog. If you are using the Devotech iDAS catalog, use the iDAS Pipe Catalog Settings command again.
